CAMILLA BALSHAW

Camilla Balshaw writes fiction and non-fiction. Her writing has been featured in The Guardian, Observer and Gal-dem. In 2020 Camilla’s memoir in progress was shortlisted for Penguin Random House’s WriteNow programme, which aims to discover and nurture new writers from under-represented communities. Her debut work, NAMED: A STORY OF NAMES AND RECLAIMING WHO WE ARE, an exploration of names, global naming conventions and identity politics woven into a moving, personal narrative about the finding of family and self was published by Bedford Square Publishers in June 2025 and won the Biography & Memoir category at the East Anglian Book Awards.

Born and raised in Luton, Camilla has lived in Tokyo, London and Cambridge. Camilla studied Drama and History at university, has a PGCE from the Institute of Education and for a number of years taught drama and theatre studies in schools and colleges around the UK. She has an MA (Distinction) in Creative & Life Writing from Goldsmiths. When she is not reading or writing, Camilla practises and teaches Iyengar Yoga.

She lives in rural Norfolk.
