Idza Luhumyo

Idza Luhumyo (b.1993) is a Kenyan writer with training in screenwriting and a background in law. Her artistic practice lies at the intersection of law, film, and literature and her writing has been shortlisted for the Miles Morland Writing Scholarship (2018) and the Gerald Kraak Award (2019). In 2020, she won the inaugural Margaret Busby New Daughters of Africa Award to study towards an MA in Comparative Literature at SOAS, University of London (2020/2021). In 2021, she was named winner of the Short Story Day Africa Prize. In July 2022 Idza won the Caine Prize for African Writing for her short story ‘Five Years Next Sunday’. She is currently working on her first novel.
